Leave No Trace
Before you zip that suitcase or throw that feather boa in the trunk (don’t), let’s have a little heart-to-heart about everyone’s favorite dusty tradition:
Leave No Trace — It Starts Now
That’s right. LNT doesn’t begin on the playa. It begins in your garage, suitcase, and shopping cart. And we need every single one of you to help us leave Black Rock City cleaner than we found it.
We’ve got an incredible team leading our daily MOOP sweeps, compost runs, and wash station shifts—but if you bring micro-MOOP, leave your trash behind, or forget your reusable cup, it puts the entire camp at risk of getting a red dot on the MOOP Map.
Let’s make sure we’re the camp everyone else wishes they were.
BEFORE YOU COME: PACK SMART
Here’s how you can be a hero before you hit the road:
Don’t Pack MOOP
That’s Matter Out of Place—the stuff that doesn’t belong on the playa and ends up buried in the dust.
Examples:
-
Glitter
-
Feathers
-
Sequins
-
Mylar anything
-
Astroturf
-
Zip ties you don’t secure
-
Furry boots that shed
-
Cigarettes without pocket ashtrays. Leave it at home or seal it tight.
Label Everything
If it doesn’t have your name on it, it may become abandoned MOOP during strike.
Tape + Sharpie = your new best friends.
Think Reusable
-
Bring a reusable cup, bowl, and utensils... there are no disposables at Reverbia!
-
Hydration pack or reusable water bottle
-
Cloth napkins & towels > paper towels & wipes
-
Your own trash bags (you’re hauling it all back!)
Bring These Basics
-
MOOP bag or Ziploc
-
Gloves
-
Headlamp for night sweeps
-
Hat, sunscreen
-
Magnet wand (if you have one)
ON PLAYA: BE A LNT LEGEND
Here’s how to support our LNT efforts every single day:
Keep Your Camp Clean Daily
No one wants to do a dumpster dive on Day 6.
-
Keep snacks and wrappers contained
-
Secure anything that could blow away
-
Clean as you go, especially around your tent
Participate in Camp MOOP Sweeps
Morning sweeps are fun, fast, and super effective.
-
Join the team (or just moop your own area!)
-
Treat it like a treasure hunt—make it playful
Compost Correctly
Only food scraps, coffee grounds, and certain paper products go to Compost Camp.
-
No meat, dairy, or “biodegradable” plastics
-
Ask if you’re unsure. We’ll teach you how!
Dish Station Rules Are Sacred
-
Scrape
-
Wipe
Respect the Zones
Main Stage, Shade Stage, Radiance Dome, Tea House, Batwing, Showers... keep them all pristine. That means YOU.
WHAT NOT TO DO
-
Don’t leave trash ANYWHERE
-
Don’t dump liquids on the ground (including graywater!)
-
Don’t leave personal items for others to “deal with”
-
Don’t bring anything that sheds, leaks, or breaks apart
THE GOAL: GREEN MOOP SCORE
The Bureau of Land Management and Playa Restoration inspect our camp after the Burn. Their notes affect whether we get placement next year.
So yeah—it matters. A lot.
LNT = Radical Love
LNT is a gift we give to each other, to the land, and to the generations of Burners to come. If we all take ownership, the magic continues.
So before you bring it—ask yourself:
“Can I take full responsibility for this item from beginning to end?”
If yes, awesome. If not, leave it at home.
We believe in you.
Dusty hugs,
Your Reverbia LNT Team
(aka your personal anti-MOOP cheer squad)
